Question to Followers

Remember that Monday Movie Meme I used to do?

Well I am considering creating a entire blog around movie reviews. New and old, but preferably old and obscure to bring cult favorites into the limelight.

My intention is to create a GROUP SUPPORTED blog where ANYONE who chooses to participate could post a review in WHATEVER FORMAT they like. If you chose to be active and the site grows in popularity you could even post a Google ads in your review to get some change tossed at you. (As long as the ads aren't overbearing.)

The key word here is participation. I can keep my part of the bargain. I will work hard to promote and maintain this blog if you guys will assist with the content and activity.

Will you?

I was kind of hesitant to write movie reviews on FlickNight because everyone there reviewed movies that were new/in theaters, while I mostly watch movies that are relatively old and on DVD. But if you're saying that you prefer old ones, then count me in. :)

Captcha: "ipart". Sure, I'll be a part of this movie review blog you are thinking about.

If I understand this correctly then I love the idea. I'm not that good at reviewing movies, I mean, after I hear what others have to say about a given movie it is easier for me to put my opinion into words, you know? I feel dumb speaking from my own experience. I know I shouldn't. :)
By the way, I planned to start a restaurant review blog last year but I never wrote a post until yesterday. Yep, there is a fresh one there right now with zero comments. The blog is called Food Ripple and it's here http://foodripple.blogspot.com/
HL, if you think this comment is inappropriate, I'll understand if you delete it.

I love the idea!
Count me in!...how old are we talking??

I like the idea too! Although can this be foreign language movies as well (spanish for instance) or do they all have to be american movies? And like Eizzy asked - how old...? Star Wars old or Fargo old?

i'll definitely read any reviews that are written, but i'm not sure i could consistently write any myself... i don't watch that many movies.

you'd probably get the sporadic review from me about "Strange Brew" or Japanese movies like "Water Boys".

I'd be willing to give it a shot now an again. Maybe. Especially since I like older movies.

Got a technical question, is there any way that when someone leaves a comment on one of my older posts I can get notified by email? Can I change this in the settings somehow?

Vivienne, Go to your dashboard, select Settings, scroll down and you will find it.

>Farhan: Yeah, I didn't turn my nose up at anything, new or old on that site. My wife and I would have kept it going but participation kind of fizzled which is why I emphasized its significance this time around. now with Netflix on the 360 we will be watching a lot of old movies on the fly. :) Great to hear you on board!

>Sarah: Dude! When have you ever known me not to be a proponent for cross promotion?!?! OF COURSE you can post you link here! In fact, create a banner and I will post a link to it in my sidebar.

>eizzy.k: As old as you like. This is whatever you make of it. I will be reviewing movies all across history. Even old 50's flicks that we enjoyed (or hated.) ABSOLUTELY NO era or subject will be taboo.

>Vivienne: Foreign movies are a PLUS! NO restrictions. Look at my site here, I do not like limitations and while the movie blog may have categories, limitations will be non-existent.

I posted the comment on your page but here it is again in case you don't get any notification of the response. On the Dashboard, go to Settings, Comments and Comment Notification Email. Type in the e-mail address you would like to receive e-mails to and voila!

>Ryan: Consistency is requested but not demanded. This shouldn't be a job, think of it more like a Movie Club.

>Douglas: Whenever you feel like you would have interesting to share, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, maybe a silly question but....

How do we submit reviews to you?

HektikLyfe said...

>Douglas: Not silly at all. I am going to create a group blog and give you all access to it so you will post as normal. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response I am already working on a template. Once I get a functional one up and running I will make it public and invite you all. :)

But first...I am going to post a thread for title submissions so everyone can take part in the choice of name.

I think it's a great idea! I love watching movies and since my room mates and I have made it a tradition to watch movies together every single night, I might be able to take part. although I'm not good at writing reviews, I still think it would be fun to give a shot :)

hey, that's a great idea. I have one of those movie review blog deals:

:)

Oh, and even though the majority of my recent reviews are from current mainstream films...I do have lots of older obscure movies in there too (The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, Harold and Maude, The Passion of Joan of Arc etc.) so I am right there with ya on that idea!

>Better Safe Than Sorry: Sorry you can't join in.

>Sarah Jane: No thanks required. Common courtesy.

>Vivienne: Almost done. I'm still up in the air regarding the rating system. I thinking the standard 5 star model. It seems to work well. 10 is just too much and percentage is ridiculously exact for something so opinionated.

>Jessica: I look forward to hearing your opinion. No experience necessary. Remember, this is meant to express the point of view from the audience, not the professional film critic so you should feel right at home. This blog is created for people like you.

>Jewlover2: Thanks. Yeah my wife and I have been writing movie reviews for a while on many different websites like MSN Groups, MySpace even Live Spaces since early 2004. I've been contemplating doing it here on blogger for a while but I didn't really like the Meme format too much since it didn't really promote group participation, which is what I'm all about. I thought now that we have a good group of active people, it would be ideal to create something with a group effort mentality.

It appears you have some good experience, I look forward to your participation in the group blog! :)
