Honor

I've been watching a lot, perhaps too much, of old Japanese movies and animé. The great Seven Samurai being one of them. I'm starting to believe it is getting into my head.

I caught myself slightly bowing to someone when I almost ran into them as I came around a hallway corner at work. :S I don't know how long I've been doing this for. I only acknowledged the realization because I felt awkward at the fact that I was bowing to a Japanese coworker.

Whoops!

I sincerely hope he didn't think it was in jest. I don't want to have to try to explain. "Oh sorry I have just been watching a lot of Japanese film lately and..."

Anyway, I hope you have a better day!

Ha! And you realized that the person was Japanese. Thats hilarious. But hey, I find that the kind of physical gestures that are used by the people in the orient are very graceful and respectful.

hahahaha! This made me laugh. Thanks. I sometimes think you would really enjoy the Asian culture. :)

Very funny. I remember this lady at my work had this nervous tic or something when she typed. One day I was in her office and I started doing it with her without realizing. I had to catch myself before she caught me. :)

yeah, the bow is ingrained in me now.

i had this conversation with a korean guy about how obama had slightly nodded/bowed to the japanese emperor and it was a huge thing in the asian world.

your story also reminds me of a time in college when i played jedi knight 2 for about 8 hours straight... and after that, whenever I walked outside i was constantly checking for ventilation ducts.

>Farhan: So do I. But unfortunately here in the United States, gestures and traditions have historically been used to mock other cultures. There is an unspoken taboo against those practices even though I did it subconsciously.

>Iris: I think I would too. I love the formalities, the traditions, the art, the decorations...just not the crowds or the food.

>Papi's Girl: That reminds me of a story... It's short, I'll blog it. It's too long for a comment.

>Ryan: Obama - Was he not supposed to? Was it a big thing because it was a good thing? Did he not bow deep enough? I truly don't know. How was it a "huge" thing? Oh man I never finished that game! I loved that series. It was the first time you got to experience that world that way. "It has been a long time since I have challenged any one to Battle. I'm glad my opponent is so worthy!" - Dark Forces Final Battle.

apparently it was seen as a weakness. I was told that when bush met the emperor he didn't bow, just shook his hand. but I'm sure Obama has advisers that instructed him how to behave and there was probably something political behind the bow.
